<dc:link>http://catalogo.ul.pt/F/?func=item-global&doc_library=ULB01&type=03&doc_number=000576119</dc:link>	<dcterms:abstract>The Architecture on Display is a research and reflection on exhibiting architecture, as a means of promoting and/or validation architecture itself, contextualizing that process in terms of conception, significance and acceptance. Considering the actual predisposition from a wider public to the theme of architecture itself, the opportunity of displaying its principles and fundaments must be valued. Accepting architecture’s nature as a comprehensive discipline – in the sense of cultural production – this work is mostly addressed to the most traditional strand of architecture production, meant to be built and taken by authorship. For a better organization of the retained information, the case-studies here presented are examples of monographic exhibitions, though, when compared, very different ones: the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, in London, an annual program consisting on the construction of a temporary pavilion, designed by an invited architect; the development of the displaying options and choices of Herzog & de Meuron as an office of irrefutable quality and media acknowledgment; and the monographic exhibition of the work from Aires Mateus, in Centro Cultural de Belém in 2005/06, for its specificity as an architecture exhibition on a national overview. Assuming the difficulty created by the absence of the object of display as the central point of the investigation – and, as so, the search for substitutes for it -, the examples presented do not exclusively represent the absent object, but express their conceptual and immaterial nature. In such sense, it is explored a type of display capable of using the visual culture potential and, simultaneously, of producing more specific contents: allowing several levels of information, in order to attract the ordinary visitor as well as to convey a critical message to a more specialized one. In the present study, the exhibition is faced as a form of communication that – especially in architecture exhibitions – should not be seen as a substitute for the reality of the finished process, but as a new context and a new reality</dcterms:abstract></record></value></md><md shared="false"><mid>29641</mid>

<type>rights_md</type><value><ar:access_right_md xmlns:ar="http://com/exlibris/digitool/repository/api/xmlbeans" enabled="true"><ar_conditions><ar_condition negate="false"><ar_expressions><ar_expression negate="false" ar_operation="within"><key>ip_range</key><val1>10.0.0.0</val1><val2>10.255.255.255</val2></ar_expression></ar_expressions></ar_condition></ar_conditions><ar_copyrights required="false"><text_file></text_file></ar_copyrights></ar:access_right_md></value></md></mds><relations><relation><type>manifestation</type><pid>22857</pid></relation></relations><stream_ref><file_name>22856_ULFBA_TES342.pdf</file_name><file_extension>pdf</file_extension><mime_type>application/pdf</mime_type><directory_path>/digitool_storage/deposit-any/2010/07/07/file_1/22856</directory_path><file_id xsi:nil="true" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"/><storage_id>1000</storage_id><external_type>-1</external_type><file_size_bytes>32869962</file_size_bytes></stream_ref></xb:digital_entity></xb:digital_entity_call>
